A Minnesota-based congregation, Westwood Community Church, partnered with World Relief Malawi to build a series of community training centers in dispersed villages throughout Malawi. The purpose of the centers is to bring relief to a country emerging from the effects of AIDS and HIV, using trained educators to reach the communities and improve the standard of living by teaching courses in the following areas: Health, Education, Agriculture, Refugee, and Trade. The village centers include community gathering space, classrooms, medical treatment/exam rooms, counseling rooms, offices, kitchens, and toilet facilities. One village center has currently been built in Namatubi, and one ‘HEART’ center has been built in Chitipa. There are plans for at least three additional village centers in Chipakama, Chisenga and Chisitu, and one additional ‘HEART’ center in the country’s capital, Lilongwe.
